Don't Miss the Signs: Stroke Risk, Response and Recovery

Presented by: Dr. Bjork, Neurologist at South Bend Neurology

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Learn how to identify stroke types and TIAs, understand risk factors, recognize symptoms and signs, and why seeking treatment quickly can improve long-term outcomes. Dr. Bjork will also share insights on stroke recovery and what to expect after treatment. Plus discover how St. Paul’s promotes wellness for Independent and Assisted Living residents through engaging community life, on-site therapy, strength-building programs, nutrition support and special diets following stroke.

St. Paul’s New Support Groups Free and Open to the Public

St. Paul’s, a Trinity Health Senior Community located at 3602 Ironwood Drive in South Bend, is now offering Support Groups for the loved ones of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia as well as for family members of those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.  These forums provide family caregivers with a safe setting to learn more about the conditions affecting their loved ones, to discuss their challenges and successes, and to listen without judgment.  Advance registration is recommended but not required; please enter our community through the main entrance and the concierge will direct you to our meeting location.

  • Alzheimer’s & Dementia Support Group

A Collaboration between St. Paul’s and Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana (Powered by REAL Services, Inc.)

Meets every third Wednesday of the month from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. ‘

 

  • Parkinson’s Support Group

Whether your loved one has just been diagnosed or has been living with Parkinson’s Disease for some time, this gathering provides discussion of materials published by the Parkinson’s Foundation and the opportunity to listen to guest speakers including clinical specialists. 

Meets every second Thursday of the month from 11:00 a.m. until Noon.

Trinity Health Senior Communities Presents Inaugural “Heart of Trinity Health” Awards

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Trinity Health Senior Communities (THSC) held its first Heart of Trinity Health Awards Ceremony.  Colleagues from across the National Health Ministry gathered at “watch parties” at their respective communities to take part in the live Teams event.

The Senior Community Excellence Award honors a community that has demonstrated success in living out the Trinity Health Mission and Core Values and developing an environment where residents and colleagues thrive.  THSC Mission Leader Michael Prince presented this award to Mercy Village in Fort Gratiot Township, MI.

The Sister Catherine McAuley Living Mission Award is presented to the colleague who best demonstrates and embodies our Core Values and Mission as “a compassionate, transforming healing presence” for residents and colleagues.  Laura Carroll, colleague relations partner, special projects, announced the winners:

  • First Place:  Patricia Carpenter, hospitality concierge, St. Paul’s (South Bend, IN)
  • Second Place:  Susan Zambelli, business office assistant, Fraser Villa (Fraser, MI)
  • Third Place:  Julie Emmons, RN, Heartwood Lodge (Spring Lake, MI)
     

The Sister Angela Gillespie Servant Leader Award is presented to the people leader who has demonstrated an outstanding Mission-driven leadership ability exhibiting communication, trust, cooperation, and respect for differences among team members.  Laura Carroll announced the winners:

  • First Place:  Kimberly Wessell, director of sales, St. Joseph of the Pines (Southern Pines, NC)
  • Second Place:  Gloria Mrozek, resident experience supervisor, Glacier Hills (Ann Arbor, MI)
